Robin Leigh Maier, LCSW

I am Robin Leigh Maier, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Mental Health Counselor in Tampa, Florida. I graduated from Lesley University with a BS in education. I received a Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from Simmons College-School of Social Work in Boston, Massachusetts. I’ve expanded my experience in the areas of infant mental health, postpartum depression, ADD and ADHD in both children and adults. I treat men, women, adolescents, families and couples, as well as individuals dealing with issues related to sexual orientation.

For over 25 years, I have provided therapy to adolescents and adults coping with life’s challenges.  My treatment goals always include helping my patients carefully examine their lives and providing exemplary psychiatric counseling.  My practice is a safe haven for growth, designed to help adults and adolescents struggling with ADD and ADHD, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I use the following methods during treatment: psychoanalytic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. I’ve helped hundreds of patients find ways to live happier and more balanced lives.

I’m a trained skills life coach, and I’m also the president and founder of The Mothering Center. For more than two decades, I’ve counseled women through miscarriages, pregnancy anxiety, infant care, and postpartum depression.  I’m a postpartum depression specialist, and I counsel women who are mourning the loss of a child.

I have provided workshops related to therapy and counseling on the following topics:

  • Intimacy and relationships
  • Stress management
  • Weight-loss & Setting Goals

I regularly blog about issues related to ADD and ADHD, depression and anxiety, relationships, and health and wellness. Please click here to read my most recent blog.  I’m a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Tampa Bay Psychoanalytic Society of Tampa Bay.

Two of my favorite quotes are:

“(We) need real moments of solitude and self-reflection to balance out how much of ourselves we give away.”

– Barbara DeAngelis

“A positive attitude brings strength, energy and initiative.”

– Remez Sasson

About Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)

We’ve all heard of psychiatrists and psychologists, but the term licensed clinical social worker might be new to you.

A licensed clinical social worker is professionally trained in psychotherapy who provides mental health counseling to patients just like a psychologist or psychiatrist does. A licensed clinical social worker has a Master’s in social work and has studied sociology, growth and development, mental theory and practice, human behavior/social environment, psychology, and research methods.

Robin provides therapeutic analyzation and advice just like a psychologist or psychiatrist, but she cannot prescribe medications or provide testing. If either medication or testing is deemed necessary, Robin refers her clients to a trusted psychiatrist or psychologist.
